The use of knowledge management systems and Event-B modelling in a lean enterprise

This paper provides a case study describing an approach to improving the efficiency of an information system (IS) by supporting processes outside the IS, using the ontology-driven knowledge management systems (KMS) as a mini-application in the area of so-called lean enterprise. Lean enterprise is focused on creating a maximal value for final customers while eliminating all kinds of waste and unnecessary costs, which significantly helps to increase the level of its competitiveness. It is about managerial decision-making, which can be in some cases contradictory (solving a local problem can cause a problem in another place). In this paper, we describe the KMS ATOM, which supports the innovation process in a lean enterprise. We show how the risk of wrong decisions due to contradictory effects can be eliminated by implementing a safety-critical system into the traditional IS. Our model is supported by Event-B modelling, a refinement-based formal modelling method, which is successfully used in important areas such as infrastructure, medicine, nuclear engineering and transportation (fire alarm systems, robotic surgery machines, braking systems in transportation, etc.). Nowadays, Event-B modelling is starting to be used for various management decision-making activities, and it is becoming a powerful competitiveness tool. M-learning as a paradigm of a new forms in education

Mobile technologies are a future in e-learning technologies. The paper presents the details of using mobile devices and wireless technologies that could be used for m-learning in education and training. Mobile devices can have more processing power, slicker displays, and more interesting applications than were commonly available on desktop machines ten years ago, and educators are quickly realizing their potential to be used as powerful learning tools. However, the application of mobile technologies to learning contexts must take into account a number of factors. Above all other things, we must consider how mobile learning can be used to provide learners with better opportunities and enhanced learning outcomes. This paper is concerned about the problems of using mobile devices and wireless technologies, a differentiation between learning and techno- logy as the driver for mobile learning approaches and than the classification of mobile learning activities. M-learning is the exciting art of using mobile technologies to enhance the learning experience. Mobile phones, PDAs, Pocket PCs and the Internet can be blended to engage and motivate learners, any time and anywhere. Handheld devices are emerging as one of the most promising technologies for supporting lear- ning and particularly collaborative learning scenarios; mainly because they offer new opportunities for individuals who require mobile computer solutions that other devices cannot provide. The high- ly personalized nature of digital mobile devices provides an excellent platform for the development of personalized, learner-centric educational experiences. In paper is emphasized the importance of considering learning over technology, and suggest a pedagogically based framework for de- veloping learner-centric m-learning. M-Learning - a Paradigm of New Forms in the Education

Moderní forma vzdělávání pomocí ICT ? eLearning, je dnes naprosto běžnou záležitostí. Existují však situace, kdy je nezbytné tuto metodu ještě více modernizovat a přizpůsobovat ji novým trendům. Můžeme přitom využít volných chvil, kdy většina z nás má po ruce mobil, nebo třeba i PDA. Jedním z řešení této situace mohou být interaktivní multimediální kurzy využívající mobilní ICT v procesu vzdělávání. Do popředí se tak dostává pojem mLearning (mobilní eLearning). Pro uchopení možností, které mobilní ICT skýtají, příspěvek nastiňuje principy mLearning, jako nové, doplňkové formy vzdělávání založené na aktivním samostudiu a individuální práci studujících.The evolution in education and training at a distance can be characterized as a move from distance learning to e-Learning and m-Learning (mobile learning). The Role of Information Management and ICT in University Education

The paper summarizes the experiences of the tuition in the information security issues at Tomas Bata University in Zlin and the University of Defence in Brno. The paper presents approaches aimed at developing the effectiveness in increasing students' knowledge and analyses one of aspects the importance of the role knowledge management in course for students. The process of integration on this issue have been taken in steps of information management that involves information sources, instructions for students, organization of education, communication between lecturers and students, and administration of the study results. The experience of teaching and students' knowledge assessment are included. There are presented some research results of activities in the field of information management and options for future developments of the courses are proposed

Concept of the computer science course and some aspects of ICT integration into education

The paper summarizes the experience of teaching Computer Science for Economists (CSE) course at the Faculty of Management and Economics (FaME) at Tomas Bata University (TBU) in Zlín. The paper presents approaches aimed at developing the effectiveness in increasing students’ knowledge and analyses just one aspect of the research – the importance of the CSE course for students. It describes methodology and technology support of using information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching full-time and part-time students. The experience of the introduction of new approaches and methods into teaching with the use of ICT is offered. There are mentioned some aspects, connect with the ICT as a knowledge society, knowledge management, learning organisation and education processes, eBusiness, ICT support of business and ICT in education. The first part of the paper describes the teaching of the CSE course at FaME/TBU. It states the objective, overview of subject areas and methodology of teaching as well as the use of information and communication technologies. The second part contains the results of the research on the CSE course, its importance for students, focusing mostly on enterprise computer science. The tutors try to improve the course constantly, develop the ICT use, and thus prepare students in accordance with the requirements of the social environment. The analysis of the research results makes possible to suggest options for further development of the course. Although the paper does not cover of all aspects of the CSE course at TBU in favour of enterprise computer science, it presents the basic framework schema of teaching and experience of tutors. The experience of teaching and assessing students’ knowledge are summarized. In the future the research will be extended to the guarantors of the subjects building on the results of the ICT teaching

Global perspective of familial hypercholesterolaemia: a cross-sectional study from the EAS Familial Hypercholesterolaemia Studies Collaboration (FHSC)

none724siBackground The European Atherosclerosis Society Familial Hypercholesterolaemia Studies Collaboration (FHSC) global registry provides a platform for the global surveillance of familial hypercholesterolaemia through harmonisation and pooling of multinational data. In this study, we aimed to characterise the adult population with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia and described how it is detected and managed globally.Methods Using FHSC global registry data, we did a cross-sectional assessment of adults (aged 18 years or older) with a clinical or genetic diagnosis of probable or definite heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia at the time they were entered into the registries. Data were assessed overall and by WHO regions, sex, and index versus non-index cases.Findings Of the 61 612 individuals in the registry, 42 167 adults (21 999 [53.6%] women) from 56 countries were included in the study. Of these, 31 798 (75.4%) were diagnosed with the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network criteria, and 35 490 (84.2%) were from the WHO region of Europe. Median age of participants at entry in the registry was 46.2 years (IQR 34.3-58.0); median age at diagnosis of familial hypercholesterolaemia was 44.4 years (32.5-56.5), with 40.2% of participants younger than 40 years when diagnosed. Prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors increased progressively with age and varied by WHO region. Prevalence of coronary disease was 17.4% (2.1% for stroke and 5.2% for peripheral artery disease), increasing with concentrations of untreated LDL cholesterol, and was about two times lower in women than in men. Among patients receiving lipid-lowering medications, 16 803 (81.1%) were receiving statins and 3691 (21.2%) were on combination therapy, with greater use of more potent lipid-lowering medication in men than in women. Median LDL cholesterol was 5.43 mmol/L (IQR 4.32-6.72) among patients not taking lipid-lowering medications and 4.23 mmol/L (3.20-5.66) among those taking them. Among patients taking lipid-lowering medications, 2.7% had LDL cholesterol lower than 1.8 mmol/L; the use of combination therapy, particularly with three drugs and with proprotein convertase subtilisin-kexin type 9 inhibitors, was associated with a higher proportion and greater odds of having LDL cholesterol lower than 1.8 mmol/L. Compared with index cases, patients who were non-index cases were younger, with lower LDL cholesterol and lower prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular diseases (all p<0.001).Interpretation Familial hypercholesterolaemia is diagnosed late. Guideline-recommended LDL cholesterol concentrations are infrequently achieved with single-drug therapy. Cardiovascular risk factors and presence of coronary disease were lower among non-index cases, who were diagnosed earlier. Earlier detection and greater use of combination therapies are required to reduce the global burden of familial hypercholesterolaemia. Copyright (C) 2021 Elsevier Ltd.
